Method

How the reinforcement weight is found

Each line's total length is similar × count × length; its weight is that length times the bar size's weight per metre.

Formula

Weight (kg) = similar × count × length (m) × unit weight (kg/m)

Unit weight (kg/m) = π/4 × Ø² × 7.85 kg/dm³ (Ø in mm)

The table comes from this formula, rounded to 3 decimals: Ø8 0.395 · Ø10 0.617 · Ø12 0.888 · Ø14 1.208 · Ø16 1.578 · Ø20 2.466 · Ø25 3.853 · Ø32 6.313. The ز/162 shortcut is not used; it gives 0.889 for Ø12 and 1.210 for Ø14.

Rules

Weight per metre table
The weight per metre of 17 bar sizes from Ø6 to Ø50 comes from π/4 × Ø² × 7.85, to 3 decimals. Standards may give the nominal mass to other digits; you can enter your own value as the unit weight.
Own unit weight
Enter the unit weight by hand for another steel or standard. For an "Other" size it is required; lines with their own value are totalled apart.
Waste and laps
The tool adds no waste or lap allowance. Lap lengths are inside the bar length you enter; waste is up to the item description and the contract.
Totals per bar size
Each size's length and weight are totalled apart; the grand total is given in kg and tonnes. Tonnes are a thousandth of the kg, worked out from the exact value, not the rounded kg.
No rounding along the way
Lines and total are worked out with exact values; only the figure on screen is rounded: m, m², m³ and kg to 3 decimals, tonnes to 6. A copied value carries 8 decimals. A quantity rounded along the way leaves a gap that turns into money once multiplied by the unit price.
Deduction lines
Each thing to deduct goes on its own line, marked as a deduction; the sheet counts it negative. If the deductions exceed what was added, no total is given.
Measurement rules come from the item description
The "Measurement" clause of the item description and the technical specification decide which voids are deducted and how intersections are measured. The tool applies no void threshold and deducts no intersection by itself.
Copying for Excel
The sheet is copied with its header, lines and total as tab-separated text. Numbers use the page's decimal mark and no thousands separator; deductions carry a minus sign.

What this tool does not cover

It does not produce a bar bending schedule or cutting list, nor bending allowances.

It does not apply the item description's measurement clauses by itself, read quantities from drawings (DWG, IFC), or multiply quantities by unit prices into amounts.

Frequently asked

About rebar takeoffs

For each bar, similar × count × length gives the total length; times the bar size's weight per metre gives kg. For example 24 bars of Ø16 at 12.35 m make 296.40 m × 1.578 kg/m = 467.719 kg.

0.888 kg. Other common sizes: Ø8 0.395 · Ø10 0.617 · Ø14 1.208 · Ø16 1.578 · Ø18 1.998 · Ø20 2.466 · Ø22 2.984 · Ø25 3.853 · Ø32 6.313 kg/m.

π/4 × Ø² × 7.85 kg/dm³, with Ø in millimetres, rounded to 3 decimals. The common ز/162 shortcut is approximate: it gives 0.889 for Ø12 and 1.210 for Ø14; the tool does not use it.

No. Enter lap lengths inside the bar length; waste is assessed separately under the item description and the contract.

The total kg is divided by 1,000. The tool works tonnes out from the exact value, not the rounded kg, and shows 6 decimals: 546.6952 kg is 0.546695 t.
